Last night, Panorama broadcast Wi-Fi: a warning signal unmasking the “controversy” over Wi-Fi health risks.

This is one of those many controversies in science that are not really controversies as far as the vast majority of scientists are concerned, such as the “controversy” over whether global warming is caused by changes in solar output.

Panorama quotes Sir William Stewart as stating that there is a lack of evidence as to the safety of Wi-Fi. However, the difficulty of proving a negative is well acknowledged within scientific circles. As an example, to prove that there is extraterrestrial life is easy — you just need to find an alien. To prove that there is no extraterrestrial life anywhere, you need to travel to every single planet in the universe and check in every crater, under every rock and behind every hill that there is nothing living — this is virtually impossible, and…

OK… Clavin Centre for Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery… click through to Meet our Doctors & Staff. Ignore the really awful web page design.

Scroll down to the second doctor — the Head of Anaesthesia. Yes, he is related.

Most programmers, especially those who work on server software, will have been in a situation when we’ve been reconfiguring, upgrading, modifying or otherwise replacing some piece of vital software on a physically remote server, and things haven’t gone quite as expected.

Often, fixing it is a simple matter of logging into the server remotely (via, say, secure shell) and reversing the change. In some extreme cases, the problem is so severe though, that it can’t be fixed remotely — for example, you’ve managed to accidentally halt the machine, so you can’t log into it remotely and it needs a restart. In such a situation, you’ll need to physically go over to the server (or phone someone and have them do so) and fix the problem.

NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) was launched in November 1996. Fast forward almost a decade and a couple of bugs in a firmware update end up swivelling the antena further than the antenna was built to go. This led to the craft reorienting itself and exposing one of its batteries…

1. Nothing produced something which then exploded its matter and out of that came personality, abstract thoughts, rationale, intuition, love, hate, discernment and even believe in a personal Creator.

You appear to be asking about the Big Bang. Firstly, this has nothing to do with the theory of evolution by natural selection: the universe was not created through a process of natural selection, but by the laws of physics.

For example, if I kick a ball, it keeps going in the same direction until something (a wall; gravity; friction; etc) changes its path. Similarly, if you set a star moving in a particular direction, it will keep going until it collides with another star or its path is changed by the gravity of some massive object. Simple laws of physics: testable, observable, widely accepted as fact.

Tracing the ball’s path backwards, you find my foot. Tracing…
